The United Kingdom's possible decision not to extend restrictions for Croatian nationals on its labour market would not affect British labour market dynamics and would be very positively received in Croatia, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at a meeting with British Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union David Davis.

"Given the total number of Croatian citizens and the size of the labour market, such a decision would be very positively received in Croatia and it would in no way affect the British labour market dynamics," the Croatian government said in a press release, citing Plenkovic as saying.

Croatia is attempting to use the Brexit negotiations to equate the status of its nationals with that of the citizens of other EU member states on the British labour market, Plenkovic said, underscoring that it was important for Croatia not to have the United Kingdom extend restrictions for Croatian nationals on its labour market.

Davis is visiting the EU member states ahead of a meeting of the European Council, scheduled for 23 March, when future relations between the EU and the UK are expected to be discussed.

Davis presented Britain's vision of future relations with the EU, expressing confidence that Great Britain and the EU would remain friends and allies. He underscored Britain's comparative advantages which would be beneficial for the EU in future cooperation. He also informed the Croatian PM of Britain's position regarding the latest developments in the negotiations.

Plenkovic and Davis also touched on bilateral issues and security and military cooperation, the press release said.
