PM says Todoric approached government, not vice versa

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic has said that when it comes to Agrokor it is important for the government that there is no "switching of arguments" and that it must be clearly stated that Ivica Todoric approached the government and not vice versa.

"When it comes to Agrokor, it is important to the government that there is no switching of arguments. What's important and what needs to be reiterated, given the large pile of recycled information served over the past several days (...) is that Ivica Todoric approached the government and not other way around," Plenkovic told the press after a session of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) group in Parliament.

He recalled that six months ago, following the lowering of its ratings, the crisis it faced over liquidity, the Agrokor food concern had nearly faced bankruptcy -- it was blocked and its suppliers stopped delivering goods to Agrokor stores.

The government, just before Easter, reacted literally at the eleventh hour, the prime minister recalled, saying that the government's reaction, namely the adoption of the law on companies of systemic interest, had not only enabled the normal functioning of the company, the restructuring process and facilitated a settlement deal with creditors, but it had also enabled the stability of Croatia's economy, the Croatian finance system and the success of the tourist season.
