Prime Minister meets Albanian deputy PM and foreign minister

ZAGREB, March 29 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor met for talks with Albanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta during his visit to Zagreb on Monday.

The talks focused on Croatia's EU membership negotiations and its readiness to share its experience from the accession process with other countries of Southeast Europe in their Euro-Atlantic integration.

Kosor said that Croatia and Albania cherished very good political and friendly relations, as could best be seen during the joint admission of the two countries to NATO last year. She called for closer economic ties and better cooperation in education and culture.

Kosor said she was pleased that Albania had taken over the Croatian translation of the European Union's acquis communautaire.

Meta praised Kosor for her leadership in running the Croatian government and tackling complex political and economic issues. In that context he cited the importance of a recent conference at Brdo pri Kranju, which was jointly organised by Slovenia and Croatia, saying that the conference represented an important step in the unity and cooperation of the countries in the region on their path to EU membership.

Meta said that a joint economic commission could help boost trade between Albania and Croatia. He added that introducing a flight service between Zagreb and Tirana would contribute to closer economic ties between the two countries.

Kosor extended an invitation to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha for a meeting of heads of government from Southeast Europe which was due to take place in Zagreb in May. She said she had recently discussed with Berisha in Brussels the possibility of her visiting Tirana soon.
