Prime Minister meets with representatives of pensioners
ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor met at the Cabinet Office on Tuesday with the head of the union of pensioners' associations, Josip Vincek, and Pensioners' Party leader Lazar Grujic, who expressed their full support for the government's economic recovery programme.
The meeting focused on payment of pensions, the need to reform the pension system, and reduction of the number of local government units."Thanking the pensioners for their support for the economic recovery programme, Prime Minister Kosor said that this year too the government would secure funds to pay pension arrears. As for the payment of pensions, she said that the pensioners should have no fear," the statement said.
Grujic told reporters after the meeting that they needed to discuss pension payments with the prime minister because they were "left without full information" after the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) left the ruling coalition.
Vincek said his union and the other six pensioners' parties were ready to cooperate with everyone whose programme provided for care for pensioners. He said that a month and a half ago, the pensioners' associations had sent a letter to all parliamentary parties and the government inviting them to talks, but only the prime minister had found time to receive them.
