Sanader meets bank heads
ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Monday met representatives of the Croatian National Bank (HNB) and the leading banks in the country due to current economic trends and as another step the government is taking in order to curb inflation, the government said in a statement.
Sanader, Deputy PM Damir Polancec and Finance Minister Ivan Suker said the 2008 national budget would aim for a low deficit.
Sanader said the budgetary deficit would not exceed last year's deficit and that the government would try to make it lower than in 2007.
HNB governor Zeljko Rohatinski and the leading banks' CEOs welcomed the government's efforts, saying they would stabilise the financial and capital markets, as well as help reduce inflation.
It was concluded that the banks too would help stabilise the situation in Croatia, and it was agreed that such meetings would be held in the future as well.
