Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended the AI Action Summit in Paris, organized by French President Macron and Indian Prime Minister Modi, dedicated to the topic of artificial intelligence. The goal of the summit, Prime Minister Plenković said in a statement to the media, was to make Artificial Intelligence as open and accessible as possible to everyone and to reduce the gap between those who are more and those who are less technologically advanced. He also added that it is important that artificial intelligence is at the service of humanity, that is, that we manage it, dictate the purpose and benefit for numerous activities, from social and economic, through defense, to education, health, and so on.

At the global level, he said, alliances are needed that will, through good and smart regulation, which will not be excessive in order to enable scientists and investors to progress as quickly as possible, at the same time guarantee the protection of human rights and, ultimately, humans.

The summit ended with announcements of new major investments in the field of artificial intelligence.

Prime Minister Plenković believes that it is very useful for Croatia, as a member of the European Union, but also as a country that currently employs 70 thousand people in the ICT sector, to place as much emphasis on this topic as possible, including in the context of the work of the Digital Transformation Council.

The European Commission's intention is to finance as many such projects as possible at the level of the member states, said Prime Minister Plenković, and singled out projects in which Croatia and Slovenia want to invest jointly.

We will try to use all possible horizontal sources of financing that exist at the level of the European Union, he said.

Currently, there are much greater investments in this area in the United States than in Europe, which will account for approximately half of the total planned global investments by 2028.

We want to position Croatia on the map of transformation towards a digital society

He recalled that the recent meeting in Davos was also dedicated to artificial intelligence, and Croatia will use these contacts to position itself on the map of transformation towards a digital society.

It will inevitably happen that Artificial Intelligence will take over some jobs, he said, and therefore he reiterated once again how important it is for it to be at the service of humans and for us to use it wisely.

The development of Artificial Intelligence has accelerated tremendously in the last few years, so no one knows what will happen in ten years, said the Prime Minister, adding that long-term assessments in this area are possible at the level of two to four years.

Such an approach is good, as long as there are no deviations, but that is precisely why regulations exist to ensure that artificial intelligence remains in the service of humanity.

He recalled the four fundamental tracks within the framework of the Croatian National Development Strategy, which is part of the Government Program, namely demographic revitalization, green transition, digital transformation and education.

Currently, digital transformation is the number one topic in the world, he added.

Thanks to an association dealing with artificial intelligence, Croatia has already educated one percent of the population and five percent of teachers on the topic.
