Umbrella sports organisations get HRK 24M more than in 2017

The government has increased its budget allocation for sports by 15.5% in 2018, thus enabling the Central State Office for Sport (SDUS) to meet the demands by umbrella sports association, and creating conditions for further development and excellent results by Croatian athletes.

SDUS State-Secretary Janica Kostelic adopted a decision on financing sports programmes for five umbrella organisations - Croatian Olympic Committee, Croatian Paralympic Committee, Croatian Sports Federation for the Deaf, Croatian Academic Sports Federation, Croatian School Sports Federation - granting a total of HRK 180 million, which is an increase of HRK 24 million or 15.5% compared to 2017, SDUS reported on Friday.

Total allocations for sports since the 2016 budget have increased by almost HRK 100 million and in addition to increasing funding to satisfy the needs of public sport at that state level conducted through umbrella organisations, funding has been increased from HRK 2.2 million to 7 million for local sports and competition and two new activities have been introduced with funding of HRK 8 million to promote the organising large sports events and a further HRK 14 million from the European Social Fund to include vulnerable people in sports.

Awards granted by the state to athletes for excellent results has also increased by 100%, SDUS said.
