Adlesic and Kalantzopoulos discuss state administration and judicial reform

Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Djurdja Adlesic met in Zagreb on Wednesday with the World Bank Director for Central European and Baltic Countries, Orsalia Kalantzopoulos, the Croatian Government Public Relations Office said in a statement.

Adlesic and Kalantzopoulos expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation between the Croatian government and the World Bank on various projects, saying that cooperation would continue, particularly in development projects.

Kalantzopoulos informed Adlesic about the scope of work of the recently established World Bank department that covers Central European and Baltic countries, a group that includes Croatia.

She cited the reform of public administration and the judiciary and the fight against corruption as important issues for Croatia with regard to its cooperation with the World Bank and the process of its accession to the European Union.

Adlesic said that Croatia had taken steps in these areas, citing recent amendments to the law on civil servants whose aim is to additionally depoliticise state administration, reduce corruption and improve the overall state administration system. She noted that the government would soon adopt a strategy for state administration reform and that it also planned to adopt a law on free legal aid.

On the subject of judicial reform, Adlesic said that the government had prepared a programme to streamline the network of courts by dissolving or reorganising about 60 courts.
