Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Tuesday met for talks with former German foreign minister Hans Dietrich Genscher, the government's public relations office said in a statement.
Recalling the time when Croatia was recognised by the international community, Sanader thanked Genscher for his friendship and help to Croatia's efforts to gain independence and join the community of free and democratic countries.
Genscher said that he was following Croatia's achievements on the road to Euro-Atlantic associations and congratulated it on receiving the invitation to join NATO, adding that he was confident Croatia would join the EU very soon.
Sanader and his guest also discussed the situation in the neighbouring region, agreeing that Croatia's role in creating an atmosphere of peace and stability in Southeast Europe in recent years was very important.
