Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Family, War Veterans Affairs and Inter-generational Solidarity, Jadranka Kosor, on Monday met with the US Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues, Clint Williamson, and the US Ambassador to Croatia, Robert Bradtke, to discuss the work of the Hague war crimes tribunal, the settlement of the missing persons issue and Croatia's position in the UN Security Council, the government said in a statement.
Croatia is committed to cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Kosor said, adding that the cooperation is entirely open and sincere.
The government believes that the ICTY's work won't be done until the worst war criminals, Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, are brought to justice, Kosor said, adding that this was the only way to achieve peace in this region.
Ambassador Williamson said that Croatia was setting an example regarding the work of the Hague tribunal, as evidenced by its invitation to join NATO, which he congratulated the government on, and by the fact that Croatia was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
He added that Croatia had made a big step forward in the search for missing persons.
Kosor said the Croatian government believed that one of the basic human rights was the right of all families to find their dearest ones, regardless of their nationality.
