Prime Minister Plenkovic to attend Davos Summit

Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic is travelling to Davos to attend the World Economic Forum on Thursday and Friday, according to a press release from the government, and this forum is also perceived as an opportunity for Plenkovic to meet his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic amidst the strained bilateral relations.

This will be the first meeting of the prime ministers of Croatia and Serbia since Plenkovic took office.

Announcing his trip to Davos in his address to the press in the parliament on Wednesday, Plenkovic said he would participate in a panel on southeast Europe which would also be attended by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Serbian PM Vucic, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz and EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn.

He said he would talk with prominent figures, business people, NATO's secretary-general  Jens Stoltenberg, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, Hahn, UNCD's secretary-general, the premiers of Switzerland and Georgia, and others.

The  World Economic Forum is a Swiss nonprofit foundation, based in Geneva.

This year's forum, which is taking place in Davos from 17 to 20 January, will bring together nearly 300 political leaders from 70 countries, 1,000 senior executives from big companies as well as other experts. Some of the topics on the agenda are, the issue of populism, geopolitical topics, global security, sustainable growth, social inclusion, digital labour etc.
