Croatian PM, Maltese president talk economic cooperation

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic held talks with Maltese President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on Monday about advancing economic cooperation and the possibility of jointly appearing on third markets, Plenkovic's office said in a press release.

They concluded that it is necessary to advance economic cooperation, notably in shipbuilding, engineering, telecommunications, civil aviation and tourism.

The two officials exchanged views on the possibility of appearing together on third markets given Malta's good economic relations with the countries in North Africa and the Middle East, the press release, adding that Croatia could offer Malta the use of its Rijeka and Ploce seaports to access Central and Southeast European markets.

Coleiro Preca informed Plenkovic about the lifting of all restrictions for Croats on Malta's labour market.

The two officials said they were pleased with the political relations between the two countries and the cooperation within the European Union. They also welcomed the Croatian-Maltese economic forum taking place today.

Plenkovic informed Coleiro Preca about the priorities of Croatia's presidency over the European Union in the first half of 2020.
