Markovcic Kostelac appointed Executive Director of European Marine Safety Agency

Croatian State Secretary for Maritime Affairs Maja Markovcic Kostelac has been named the new Executive Director of the European Marine Safety Agency (EMSA), the Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

The EMSA Administrative Board nominated Markovcic Kostelac as the next EMSA Executive Director with a majority vote.

Markovic Kostelac will start her 5-year term on 1 January 2019.

The EMSA's main objective is to provide technical and scientific assistance to the European Commission and member states in the proper development and implementation of EU legislation on maritime safety, pollution by ships and security on board ships.

In addition, the Agency has operational tasks in oil pollution preparedness, detection and response.

Croatian Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic said Markovic Kostelac's appointment was a great recognition not only for her professional work but also for Croatia.
