OECD is another instrument for improving reform processes; membership will make us even better
Prime Minister Plenković pointed out that joining the OECD for Croatia comes at a time when we have fully consolidated our international position and stability in terms of political, economic and financial reputation. "It is another instrument for improving reform processes, both through the system of various instruments of conventions and guidelines that the OECD has, and through the improvement of all segments of functioning of Croatian society", he said.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković participated in the conference "Croatia on the way to OECD: What will the membership bring?" in the National University Library, where he addressed the audience.
He especially greeted OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann and his delegation and expressed his gratitude for his visit arranged to bring the Croatian public closer to the structure of the accession process and ultimately the benefits of Croatian membership in the OECD.
He pointed out that the OECD is the only remaining organization that Croatia needs to join, and added that in the last three decades Croatia has made great strategic strides.
"Now, three decades later, we have reached the stage where, after the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, NATO, European Union, Schengen and the euro, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is on the agenda," Plenković said.
"Through the OECD membership, we will get a better insight into the events led by the largest, strongest and economically most powerful actors in the world", he added.
Prime Minister Plenković emphasized the importance of social consensus on major political goals, and called on everyone to help achieve this strategic national goal.
He also emphasized that the process of joining the OECD will make Croatia better organized, our young people more competitive on the European and global labour market, and our economy ready to follow the trends of the fourth industrial revolution and keep up with the topics of the future, such as decarbonization, digital transformation and demographic challenges.
