Prime Minister Andrej Plenković hosted a working dinner attended by President of the European Council Charles Michel, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta Robert Abela and Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.
The topic of the working dinner, which took place tonight in Banski dvori, is the continuation of the discussion on the new Strategic Program of the EU.
Before the working dinner, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković held a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
At the end of the meeting, in joint statements to the media, Prime Minister Plenković thanked the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, for deciding to organize one of the dinners in Zagreb, along with Paris, Berlin and Copenhagen.
He expressed his satisfaction that he will discuss, together with Italian Prime Minister Meloni, Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki and Maltese Prime Minister Abel, the key topics of the European Union ahead of the European Council in December, as well as the process of adopting the Strategic Plan for the European Union in the period from 2024-2029.
The Prime Minister reminded that the Strategic Plan is a document that is adopted every five years and represents the broadest political, sectoral and financial framework in which the basic guidelines of the Union's activities are defined at the highest level of heads of state and government.
President of the European Council Michel said that the European Union is currently facing three shocks - climate and technological changes and threats to the rules-based multilateral order.
He emphasized the need to strengthen European sovereignty, through strengthening the economic foundations of the EU and its security architecture.
He pointed out that today's meeting is being held at a time when enlargement is high on the agenda of the European Union, stressing that it is an investment in the peace and well-being of the continent.
