EC president Barroso congratulates Kosor on becoming Croatia's PM

ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on Thursday sent a letter to Jadranka Kosor, congratulating her on becoming Croatia's prime minister.

Barroso also expressed the European Commission readiness to help Croatia overcome a halt in its EU entry talks.

Croatia made great progress on its EU path and we wish Zagreb a lot of success in overcoming the blockade of its EU entry talks. If both sides want that, we are prepared to help, in the spirit of good neighbourly relations, Barroso said.

He said Croatia must continue implementing reforms, strengthen administrative and institutional capacities, intensify the fight against crime and corruption and fully cooperate with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

After the talks in Banski Dvori, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met at the National and University Library with representatives of the Croatian defense industry. The meeting was attended by representatives of numerous companies, including the Alan Agency, HS Produkt, Sestan-Bucsha, DOK ING, Orqa, Đuro Đaković, Končar, Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Čateks, Odašiljača i veza, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and the Croatian Defense Industry Competitiveness Cluster, which deal with various areas, from microelectronics, through artificial intelligence, satellite technology, unmanned aerial vehicles, to the production of protective equipment, explosives, pistols, shipbuilding and many others. The aim of this meeting, said Prime Minister Plenković, is to present to the NATO Secretary General the activities of the Croatian defense industry, an important segment of the Croatian economy.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković participated today in the international conference "30 years after Dayton: leading the way with local solutions". On that occasion, he emphasized that Croatia, as a guarantor of the Dayton Agreement and as a member of the European Union and NATO, will not give up its commitment to stability, equality and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina. "Our only interest is the same one that we defended in the 1990s. A stable, functional and prosperous neighboring country in which Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats, like all other citizens, enjoy equal rights and equal dignity and where no one feels like a second-class citizen in their own country", he said. It is crucial to implement the Constitution in a way that strengthens, not undermines, trust between the three constituent peoples and to avoid practices that deviate from the spirit of the agreement or create unnecessary and harmful misunderstandings.
