Academic community soon to give blueprint for post-quake reconstruction

The Croatian academic community will soon give a blueprint for organised reconstruction of the quake-affected areas, Construction Minister Darko Horvat said on Tuesday evening after his meeting with professors from several faculties in Zagreb.

After his third meeting of this kind with professors, architects and other specialists, Horvat said that political bodies would make decisions, however, the proposals would be prepared by experts.

"I am sure that we will soon have on the table the proposals from the academic community," he said adding that several types of the houses would be suggested and that they would be adapted to whether they are intended for rural or urban surroundings.

Geological surveys due to geo hazards

Geological surveys are going to be conducted with the aim to understand geo hazards and also for land use planning.

The dean of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Zagreb, Kristijan Posavec, who attended the meeting, said that those surveys and analysis were necessary after the landslides and cases of soil collapse in the aftermath of the magnitude 6.2  earthquake on 29 December in Sisak-Moslavina County.

The dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Bojan Baletić, said that today's meeting had focused on  preparing the ground for the next stage and on the analysis of possible proposals of prefab modular homes.
