Beroš: We are witnessing epidemic of non-vaccinated population, 80% of deceased were not vaccinated
Health Minister Vili Beroš warned on Thursday that the number of people infected with the coronavirus was growing for the fifth week in a row, adding that Croatia was witnessing an epidemic of the non-vaccinated population, the share of whom is the highest among those newly infected, hospitalised and dead.
The minister presented data according to which in the last 24 hours, 9,962 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Croatia, and 4.88% of them, that is 486, have come back positive. He said that currently there are 2,355 active cases, and of them 244 are hospitalised patients, including 25 patients placed on ventilators.
Beroš said that in the past two weeks, of the 3,697 newly infected patients, 85.72% had not been vaccinated, adding that of 221 hospitlised patients, 87.51% had not been vaccinated.
"The number of the infected persons has gone up 50.6% in the past week," Beroš said, adding that the slow intensity of the vaccination process was a bigger cause for concern.
The minister underscored that between late June and August 17, 254 people died of the infection and 80% of them had not been vaccinated. He said that none of the 20 people who died of COVID-19 and younger than 60 had not been vaccinated.
Beroš said that to date, 3,191,520 vaccine doses have been administered.
One dose has been administered to 1,688,016 persons, or 49.9% of the adult population.
Interior Minister Davor Božinović said the COVID-19 crisis management team had not introduced new restrictions since July 29.
