The government on Thursday decided to launch proceedings for the expression of interest in the Muzil development project in Pula, with Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin saying he expected binding bids to be invited in February.

Muzil is a former military complex owned by the City of Pula and the state. Lorencin said it covered 170 hectares and was a very attractive property on the northern Adriatic Istrian peninsula.

The development project envisages the construction of four- or five-star hotels with 2,270 beds, public, social and business facilities, a beach, an 18-hole golf course, a marina with 380 berths, and a culture and congress centre.

Speaking to the press after the government session, Lorencin said tourism investment in Muzil was estimated at EUR 150-200 million. He expects five to ten investors to express interest in the project.
