The construction of a new passenger terminal of the Zagreb International Airport (MZLZ) is proceeding as planned and in accordance with the agreed time frame, it was said on Wednesday at the new terminal's construction site that was also visited by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

After visiting the construction site, Milanovic said "construction is proceeding ahead of schedule and things are proceeding well." He added that the approval for use should be issued in December 2016, possibly earlier.

The important thing is that Zagreb will have a modern airport, Milanovic said.

Asked if it could be said that he visited the future Dr. Franjo Tudjman Airport, Milanovic said: "Let's first wait for the baby to be born and then we shall name it."

Josko Mikulic, the CEO of Viadukt, the company that is doing the construction work at the MZLZ, said construction was proceeding as planned and according to schedule. The terminal should be finished by the end of this year, while side roads, access roads and viaducts should be completed in spring 2016, he said.

The new terminal is scheduled to be inaugurated in March 2017.

The construction of the new Zagreb Airport is an investment worth EUR 331 million. The new terminal will spread over 65,000 square metres.
