Croatia will donate an additional 200,000 vaccine doses to poor countries via the COVAX mechanism, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Saturday in a video message during the Global Citizen Live concerts taking place today in a number of cities across the world.

Today we are sending a message of unity in the fight against climate change, extreme poverty and the consequences of COVID-19, he said, adding that COVID vaccines must be available to people across the world.

Guided by the principles of humanity, solidarity and sympathy, that's our additional contribution to global donations, Plenković said.

We thank Global Citizen Live for its worthy initiatives, with full support for all the efforts to eliminate by 2030 extreme poverty and overcome the consequences of the pandemic, he added.

Global Citizen Live consists of a series of concerts being held today in cities such as New York, Paris, Lagos, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney and Mumbai in an attempt to raise global awareness of climate change, hunger and the right to access vaccines for all.

The artists performing include Elton John, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Duran Duran, Kylie Minogue, Metallica and The Weeknd.
