Croatia's public debt down q-o-q for first time since 2012

Croatia's public debt at the end of the second quarter of 2015 reached HRK 283.5 billion or 85.7 percent of GDP, down 2 percentage points from the previous quarter, the European Union statistical office Eurostat said in a report on Friday.

This is the first time since the end of 2012 that the public debt recorded a decrease quarter on quarter.
 
According to figures released by Eurostat on Friday, Croatia's public debt at the end of June 2015 amounted to HRK 283 billion, down HRK 5.5 billion from the previous quarter.
 
The general government deficit to GDP ratio stood at 85.7% (previously 87.7%). Eurostat said Croatia was one of the three EU members to record the highest decreases. "The highest decreases in the ratio were recorded in Ireland (-2.6 percentage points), the Netherlands (-2.2 pp) and Croatia (-2.0 pp), and the highest increases in Cyprus (+2.9 pp), Finland (+2.0 pp) and Hungary (+2.0 pp).
 
This is the first time that the public debt went down quarter on quarter since 2012 when it was reduced from 224.8 billion to 223.7 billion kuna.
