Croatian and Serbian ministers agree mechanism for solving migrant crisis at border
The Croatian and Serbian Ministers of the Interior, Ranko Ostojic and Nebojsa Stefanovic respectively, who met at the Bajakovo border crossing on Friday, agreed short- and long-term mechanism for solving the refugee crisis at the border
According to Ostojic, as soon as the winter transit centre in Slavonski Brod is completed, migrants and refugees will no longer enter Croatia through Bapska but will be transported by trains to Slavonski Brod, directly from Sid.
The two ministers also agreed that the registration of refugees and migrants in Serbia would be used as "a ticket for their passage through Croatia. Ostojic and Stefanovic agreed a stronger involvement of Serbian police at Berkasovo to relieve the pressure of migrants on the neighbouring Bapska.
"The Serbian colleague and I have agreed that this entire problem must be resolve at its root, in Greece which must start respecting the rules," Minister ostojic said.
"Refugees will come and go but neighbours stay forever, one next to another. We can have disagreements, but we must agree on how to resolve certain problems," Serbian Minister Stefanovic said.
The pressure of migrants and refugees on Croatia's eastern border is still big and migrants have been arriving by bus all night between Thursday and Friday at the Serbian border crossing of Berkasovo, from where they are entering Croatia at Bapska.
Since the start of the migrant crisis in Croatia in mid-September, a total of 222,501 refugees entered the country. On Thursday alone, approximately 6,500 entered.
