Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Brussels on Thursday that he believed the majority of EU leaders were coming to the extra-ordinary summit on the multi-annual budget with a constructive approach but that it was not possible to determine how long the meeting would last.

"I assume that they are all coming with a constructive approach and that is what we need to achieve a compromise. I also feel and have seen at the consultations I have conducted that a lot of countries want some changes in the proposal by European Council President Charles Michel," Plenkovic said upon arriving to the EU summit dedicated exclusively to the Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF), the EU next seven-year budget for the 2021-2027 period.

Plenkovic added that it was difficult to say how long the summit would last. "We have time today, tomorrow and if need be, the day after that," he said.

The heads of state or government of the 27 EU member states gathered on Thursday for a Special European Council meeting to discuss and reach an agreement on the EU’s long-term budget for 2021-2027 period.
