Croatian PM receives top Franciscan dignitaries from Croatia, Bosnia

ZAGREB, Jan 30 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Friday received the top dignitaries of the Franciscan Order from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Prime Minister underlined the great role of the Catholic Church, notably friars, in the cultural and societal life of the Croatian people as well as their huge work in the Croatian Diaspora.

The religious delegation thanked Sanader for having received them on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the Franciscan Order, and informed him of programmes for celebrating the jubilee in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Central commemorations will be held in the Franciscan monastery and shrine in Podmilacje near the western Bosnian town of Podmilacje on 30 August and in Zagreb in September.

This was also the first official visit of top Franciscan dignitaries to the Croatian government.
