Croatian president, PM hold talks
ZAGREB, July 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor met in the President's Office on Friday, for the first time since Kosor stepped into office.
Mesic and Kosor talked about the state budget and possibilities of foreign investments. Mesic said it was important to have foreigners invest in Croatia again so that new jobs could be opened, given that Croatia does not have enough money right now to do that on its own.
The president said he informed the prime minister of his participation in a recent summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Shram El Sheikh and of cooperation among countries of the region without which, as he said, Croatia cannot be recognised as a serious partner to other in Europe.
"One of the topics were military facilities which have ben inactive for too long and are no longer interesting to the army. There are great possibilities there, but clearly nobody was interested to see those capacities get activated again," Mesic said adding that he and Kosor talked about the need to set up an agency that would regulate such issues.
Asked if new initiatives for the unblocking of Croatia's EU entry talks have been launched, Mesic said he had sent a proposal to all countries of the region including Croatia's position that bilateral issues should be settled bilaterally, so that negotiations could be unblocked and that each country accelerates its EU admission. Should our friends in Slovenia accept our proposals, this could represent a new step forward, Mesic said.
