Croatian Prime Minister says there is a lot of room for strengthening cooperation with Libya

ZAGREB/TRIPOLI, Sept 2 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said in Tripoli on Wednesday there was a lot of room for strengthening the economic cooperation with Libya, adding that Croatia was preparing an official visit to that country with "a strong group of businessmen".

Kosor in on a visit to Tripoli, to attend an event celebrating the 41st anniversary of the Libyan Revolution at the invitation of the Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi.

Earlier in the day, Kosor met with the directors of Croatian companies' Libyan branches.

Ahead of the ceremony, Kosor told reporters that her visit was aimed at strengthening the economic cooperation with Libya. She said the Croatian government was preparing her official visit to Libya, adding that she would be accompanied by a strong group of businesspeople. Kosor stressed that there was a lot of room for Croatian companies in Libya, especially in sectors such as infrastructure, food processing industry, shipbuilding industry and agriculture. She also underlined Croatia"s resources of drinking water as a possibility for cooperation.

Kosor said Wednesday"s visit was good for advancing economic ties, stressing that advancing economic diplomacy was part of her government"s economic recovery programme.

Kosor said that she was accompanied on the trip to Libya by Croatian Economy Minister Djuro Popijac, who held talks with Libyan business people.

Present at the celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Libyan Revolution in Tripoli was also the Chairman of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency, Haris Siljajdzic, Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor, Serbian President Boris Tadic as well as the prime ministers of Malta, Portugal and deputy prime ministers of Spain and Greece.

After the ceremony, Kosor expressed satisfaction with her visit and talks with Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi, at which joint economic projects were discussed.

Kosor said they also agreed that the Croatian economy minister and his Libyan counterpart would meet in the near future.

Kosor told reporters that she also held talks with Slovene Prime Minister Pahor, stressing however that they did not address bilateral issues.

"We talked about certain projects the Slovene government had realised on the Libyan market, but we did not address bilateral issues," Kosor told reporters.
