Deputy Prime Minister Ostojic in Tovarnik: Police had full control of the Croatian border
Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic was in Tovarnik on Wednesday night and said police had full control of the Croatian border and that if migrants continued to arrive in larger numbers, Croatia would have to consider an entirely different approach.
"This means the EU has to process the hot spots before they arrive in Croatia," he said.
Asked by press how many more migrants Croatia could take in, Ostojic said Croatia's capacity was 1,800. "I must say that Croatia is not organising corridors towards the EU. We are strictly adhering to EU rules."
According to data the Interior Ministry released on Wednesday night, nearly 1,200 refugees had arrived in Croatia since the morning on buses from Serbia after Hungary closed its border with Serbia.
Ostojic and his Serbian counterpart Nebojsa Stefanovic met on Wednesday night in Belgrade and talked about the migrant crisis in the region, the Serbian Interior Ministry said in a press release. They agreed that the two countries' police forces would exchange information and follow developments after Hungary's decision to close its borders and clashes between the Hungarian police and migrants at the Horgos border crossing.
