Gov't considers large scale water management projects

The cabinet of Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Thursday considered giving consent to the Croatian Water Management Company ("Hrvatske Vode") for co-financing the water supply networks in the eastern city of Osijek and in the coastal city of Porec within an EU-funded project.

During the discussion, Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Branko Grcic said that those projects were not "conspicuous" but they were "imposing" and he mentioned a EUR 30 million water supply and wastewater treatment project in the eastern city of Slavonski Brod, which was covered by the IPA pre-accession fund.

Agriculture Minister Tihomir Jakovina told the cabinet that the European Union had recently approved the allocation of 52.9 million euros to co-fund the water management project in Osijek, where the total value of the project is estimated at HRK 540.9 million without Value Added Tax (approximately 71 million euros), and the EU would set aside HRK 395.3 million for this purpose, while Croatia is expected to ensure HRK 145.5 million.

The Porec project is estimated at 501.2 million kuna without VAT, with the EU covering 370.9 million kuna and Croatia 130.2 million.
