Gov't okays State Auditor's report on inefficient collection of local revenues

The government on Thursday accepted a report by the State Auditor's Office that warned about the inefficient system of revenue collection in local government units, which has resulted in errors and disparities in the calculation and collection of revenues in various local self-government units.

State Auditor teams visited all 20 counties and the City of Zagreb and in 576, cities, town and municipalities and established that certain local government units do not even calculate and collect revenues they are bound to do so by law, Finance Minister Slavko Linic informed Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic's cabinet.

He warned that all this put citizens into unequal positions.

The State Auditor's Office has also issued as many as 2,400 recommendations and guidelines to local authorities on how to improve the collection of revenues.

The cabinet okayed the provision of 64 vehicles, through an operating lease, to the Defence Ministry for the needs of the armed forces. A total of HRK 12.2 million will have been paid for that purpose by 2017.

Also the National Protection and Rescue Directorate was given the greenlight to obtain four new all-terrain fire-fighting vehicles and an additional four vehicles with a total value of 1.24 million kuna.

The government called on companies, which are ready to participate in the organisation of celebrations of Croatia's admission to the EU free of charge, to express their interest in the next ten days.

The central ceremonies are set for 30 June.
