Gov't will keep supporting books, people without culture have no identity

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Sunday visited the 43rd Interliber international book fair at the Zagreb Trade Fair, talking with publishers and saying that the government "will continue to support books because a people without culture has no identity."

Speaking to the press, he said publishers told him that this year was much better than they expected, adding that the epidemic had effected all areas of life, including publishing and reading.

Thanks to joint efforts, we have managed to bring publishing to a very satisfactory level, he said.

According to oganisers, about 50,000 people will have visited the fair, he added.

The prime minister was accompanied by Interior Minister Davor Božinović, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, Science and Education Minister Radovan Fuchs, and Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek.

He said their presence sent the message that books and reading were good, and added that the government would continue to invest in culture, science and education.
