Government adopts conclusion on memorandum with Slovenia

The Croatian government on Wednesday adopted a conclusion on a memorandum of understanding between it and the Slovenian government, with Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic thanking everyone who was involved in the memorandum and the Croatian public for its patience.

"Thanks to everyone who took part in this. It took a lot of steady nerves, especially from the Croatian public and citizens, and then us, for everything to sail in a calm and focused manner and to eventually arrive at a solution that satisfies both sides," Milanovic said at a government session.
He said the government had worked out a plan of what Croatia had to do in the next few weeks to stick to the spirit and to the letter of the memorandum, which also involves the finance minister.
Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic recalled that the memorandum was signed on Monday and that the government was briefed about it today, which meant that the formal part of the procedure was completed.
Milanovic and Slovenian PM Janez Jansa signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments to resolve the Ljubljanska Banka issue within negotiations on succession to the former Yugoslavia, while the Slovenian parliament would immediately initiate ratification of Croatia's European Union accession treaty.
