Government for re-distributing funds collected from motor fuel excise tax
The Croatian government on Thursday sent to parliament draft amendments to the laws on roads and railways proposing a new distribution of revenues collected from excise duties paid on motor fuels whereby the Croatian state motorway operator (HAC) will be given less funds than so far and funds for the Croatian Roads (HC) operator and the Croatian Railways (HZ) will be increased.
Under the current legislation the HAC and HC are each entitled to HRK 0.60 per litre of fuel sold, while the new proposal recommends that HAC may be entitled to HRK 0.20, Croatian Roads (HC) would be entitled to HRK 0.80, and Croatian Railways to HRK 0.20.This means that the annual sum distributed to HC in this way would increase to HRK 1.8 billion, while HAC and HZ can count on 460 million kuna each.
Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic explained that this would facilitate efforts to reconstruct the road and railway infrastructure.
He, however, stressed, that the funds to be allocated to the railways would go exclusively to the HZ Infrastructure and not to the HZ Passenger Transport branch of the railways.
