Government to align 107 laws with acquis in 2013

The government on Thursday formulated a plan of alignment with the European Union's acquis for 2013 under which 107 laws, 191 bylaws and 63 implementation measures are to be aligned with European regulations.

Speaking at the cabinet's last session of the year, Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said the adoption of the programme was a clear sign that Croatia was ready to function as an EU member, given that all member countries adopted such plans.
She said all ten tasks highlighted in the latest monitoring report were being carried out and that all tasks envisaged in the revised action plan would be completed by January 31.
The government also formulated a plan of normative activities for 2013 and a draft strategy for evaluating the efficiency of regulations in the next three years, with a view to developing a better legislation and cutting costs.
The government plans to pass 72 regulations next year, of which 61 are subject to efficiency evaluation. Deputy Prime Minister Neven Mimica said the evaluation ensured the inclusion of the public in the discussion on what should be regulated and how. He said one of the strategy's goals was to train civil servants and that "a new and better legislation requires a new administration."
