Grcic says SDP's election strategy to be based on positive economic indicators
Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Branko Grcic has said that his Social Democratic Party (SDP) will base its election campaign on positive economic indicators of economic recovery, export and employment growth and unemployment decline as the results of the incumbent government.
In that context, he cited data from the national statistical office showing that in the first six months of this year exports went up 11.5% from the same period of 2014, and that unemployment was down.
"We have to accentuate the good results, the way we have made order in the country in the past three years, the way we prepared what is happening now, namely economic recovery, which is certainly one of the most important arguments," Grcic said in an interview with Radio Split on Tuesday.
He said that a pre-campaign for the next parliamentary election had already begun and that the actual campaign was expected to start at the end of this year.
Underlining the importance for the SDP to fully define its election strategy, Grcic said: "This year 36,000 more people have a job compared to last year. These are excellent indicators on which we will surely base our campaign."
"Both the government and the SDP are fully focused on making citizens feel the effects of job creation and unemployment decline as soon as possible," he said.
Responding to the interviewer's remark that the opposition HDZ party, too, wanted the country's economy to recover, Grcic said: "There is one important difference, what they (HDZ) want, we make a reality. We are now in a position to do that and to take pride in the results."
