ICTY chief prosecutor meets with Croatian justice minister and deputy PM Kosor

ZAGREB, Nov 10 (Hina) - The Chief Prosecutor of the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, met with Croatian Justice Minister Ivan Simonovic during his visit to Zagreb on Monday, a Justice Ministry statement said.

The meeting, which also involved close aides to the chief prosecutor and the minister, focused on unresolved issues between Croatia and the ICTY and modalities for resolving them. Both parties said that cooperation between Croatia and the ICTY was good, with the Croatian officials saying that Croatia was willing to continue the cooperation.

Also discussed was a request by the ICTY Office of the Prosecutor for the delivery of documents and the results of investigations undertaken to trace the missing documents which the prosecution had requested in the case of Croatian army generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac.

Simonovic explained a detailed report which Croatia had submitted to Trial Chamber I and the Office of the Prosecutor, elaborating on all the efforts Croatia had made to track down the missing documents.

Brammertz also held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Family Affairs, War Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Jadranka Kosor. Her ministry said in a statement that the ICTY Office of the Prosecutor had not yet analysed in detail Croatia's report on the steps it had taken to locate the missing documents in the Gotovina, Cermak and Markac case, because it was an extensive report.

Kosor, who also chairs the Council for Cooperation with the ICTY and other international criminal courts, informed Brammertz about the activities of the Croatian authorities in tracing the missing documents and reiterated the government's determination to fully cooperate with the ICTY.

According to an ICTY press release, Brammertz is currently on a regular working visit to the region of the former Yugoslavia. After Zagreb, he travels to Sarajevo, where he will stay on Wednesday and Thursday, and on 17 and 18 November he will be in Belgrade.

The purpose of his visits is to meet with the local authorities in charge of cooperation with the ICTY in preparation for the prosecutor's regular report to the UN Security Council in December.
