IMF upgrades Croatian GDP forecast to 0.8 pct
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday upgraded its forecast for Croatia's economic growth this year to 0.8 percent, while downgrading the forecasts for unemployment and inflation for this year and the next.
In its autumn World Economic Outlook for the global economy, the IMF estimates that Croatia's economy will grow 0.8% in 2015, 0.3 percentage points more than in the spring forecast. The forecast for 2016 is 1%, the same as in the spring.
On the other hand, the IMF downgraded the forecast for unemployment growth in Croatia in 2015 and 2016, estimating it at 16.6% this year, as against 17.3% in spring, and at 16.1% in 2016, down 0.8pp from the spring outlook.
Also, the IMF estimates that consumer prices in Croatia will decrease 0.4% in 2015, as against the 0.9% forecast in spring, and increase 1.1%, in 2016, up 0.2pp than the spring outlook.
The surplus in the balance of payments is expected to account for 1.7% of GDP this year, as against the 2.2% estimated in the spring, and for 1.5% in 2016 (2% in the spring).
Croatian GDP increased 0.5% in Q1 and 1.2% in Q2 this year.
