Croatia and Luxembourg have developed partnership and friendly relations and both countries  want to continue cooperating both on the economic and political front, according to the conclusions of talks between Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and his visiting Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic.

Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we have an important meeting of the European Council and it has been my pleasure to receive the Croatian Prime Minister. Croatia and Luxembourg are partners and friends and it is important to exchange opinions before that summit meeting, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Bettel said after the first bilateral meeting between the two premiers.

We are living in a situation in which we must deal with crises and we have other topics on the agenda such as the future of Europe. It is important to exchange opinions and define joint positions and to come to Brussels acquainted with our partners' positions. I thank the Prime Minister (Plenkovic) for his arrival and the talks on the continuation of the friendly relations between our two countries, Bettel said.

Plenkovic said that the meeting in Luxembourg was an opportunity for talks on bilateral relations which he described as good, quality and friendly.

Luxembourg always supported us on our journey to the European Union and to NATO, Luxembourg is one of the biggest investors in Croatia in the last 25 years, as many companies have their headquarters here and I think that we should continue cooperating along these lines, the Croatian PM said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the tourist arrivals of Luxembourg visitors to Croatia. In 2017, there were 10,000 visitors with Luxembourg passports arriving in Croatia and generating 50,000 overnight stays, which is a considerably high number when considering the size of that country.

Plenkovic said that he and his host Bettel also discussed the topics that would be on the agenda of the two-day EU summit meeting in Brussels.

During his stay in Luxembourg, Plenkovic will meet with the president of the the EU Court of Justice,  Koen Lenaerts.

Plenkovic will then head to Brussels for the two-day summit meeting.
