Minister Mrsic: In the first quarter of the year 10,500 young people had been hired for indefinite periods

"If we continue at this pace, by the end of the year between 30,000 and 40,000 young people will be hired for indefinite periods of time and will stay in Croatia," Mrsic said during Question Time in Parliament on Wednesday

"If we continue at this pace, by the end of the year between 30,000 and 40,000 young people will be hired for indefinite periods of time and will stay in Croatia," Mrsic said in response to a question by Social Democratic Party (SDP) MP Karolina Leakovic, who was interested in the effect of government measures that exempted employers from paying contributions for five years for young people hired for indefinite periods of time.

"Of 47,000 young people who have undergone on-the-job training, about 28,000 have been offered jobs," the minister said.

Other ministers also boasted about good figures and indicators in their departments.

Finance Minister Boris Lalovac said that VAT revenues in the first quarter of the year were about a billion kuna higher than at the same time last year. All the measures undertaken by the government have had a positive impact on economic activities, resulting in higher VAT revenues, he told SDP MP Drazenko Pandek.

Enterprise Minister Gordan Maras said that economic trends were positive and encouraging, that companies had generated 200% higher profits, that small businesses had hired 25,000 more people than last year, and that exports by small and medium enterprises had gone up by over 7 billion kuna.
