Minister says 40,000 young people to be permanently employed by year's end

Labour and Pension System Minister Mirando Mrsic said in Dubrovnik on Friday that by the end of this year, owing to the government's employment incentives, 40,000 young people would have employment contracts for an indefinite period of time.

Attending a job fair organised by the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), Mrsic said that unemployment had been declining in the last nine months.

"Employment has been on the rise in the country's northwestern counties, just as it has here in the south. The measures we have launched are yielding results. Of the 48,000 young people who have started on-the-job training, 28,000 have been given employment contracts for a fixed or indefinite period of time," said the minister.

"The latest figures show that 10,500 young people have been given permanent work contracts. If we continue at this pace, by the end of the year more than 40,000 young people will have employment contracts for an indefinite period of time," Mrsic said, noting also that the demand for seasonal workers was up 12% this year.

Attending the job fair in Dubrovnik were 50 exhibitors - 35 employers and 15 educational institutions.
