Number of unemployed falls in March for 1st time in 6 months

At the end of March, 319,211 job-seekers were registered with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ), which was 10,540 people or 3.2% fewer than in February and the first drop in the number of the unemployed after six months.

Compared with March 2014, the number of unemployed people was down by 57,655 or 15.3%, the HZZ announced on Friday.

Day-to-day figures showed on Friday that 312,094 job-seekers were registered with the HZZ, which was 7,117 fewer than at the end of March, and there were 13,144 vacancies currently advertised.

During March, 31,848 people were removed from the HZZ unemployment records, which was 19.1% more than in March last year. Of them, 22,201 were hired, while the rest were struck from the records for various reasons, such as retirement, education or failure to comply with HZZ rules.
