Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met today with the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, who then, together with the Minister of Finance Marko Primorac, presented the first Economic Review for the Republic of Croatia for joining that organization.

"Today is a truly reference day for Croatia and for its accession process to the OECD, the only major international organization we still need to join," Prime Minister Plenković emphasized after the meeting.

He added that the OECD's Economic Review for Croatia is very important, objective and impartial, and realistic with regard to the current economic situation, the reforms achieved in the past period, as well as the suggestions on the directions of further reforms useful for Croatia and its citizens and the economy.

The Prime Minister pointed out that Croatia's membership in the OECD is exceptionally important, since it is an organization that brings together 38 of the most developed countries in the world.

With membership in this organization, he added, Croatia would achieve all its strategic state and foreign policy goals.

He said that membership in the OECD will enable the Croatian economy to be even more globally competitive.

Cormann: Croatia is a source of inspiration for the OECD, as well as for the countries of the Western Balkans

OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann said that the organization has been cooperating with Croatia for years and the country has shown great commitment to reforms, as well as sustainable and strong development, growth and constant improvement of living standards.

"Croatia is in a good phase, the Croatian economy has progressed. Croatia is enthusiastic and strongly making efforts to join the OECD and is committed to development, growth and creating opportunities for Croatian citizens to progress,'' said Cormann.

He added that OECD members would benefit from quality cooperation with Croatia because it is"a source of inspiration, not only for OECD members but also for the countries of the Western Balkans.

"Croatia shares its experiences and activities related to cooperation with the OECD, contributes to various initiatives, e.g. green transitions. We are looking forward to the development of this program and close cooperation and the process of accession to the OECD, which will enable additional growth and development for the benefit of all citizens in the Republic of Croatia,'' said the Secretary General of the OECD.
