PM, health minister visit Rijeka hospital construction site
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Tuesday visited the construction site of a hospital in Rijeka, saying that after its completion, the people of the northern Adriatic city and its environs would have the best healthcare available.
He said the government supported this HRK 1.1 billion worth project and that he was pleased that construction might be completed even before the spring 2022 deadline.
Plenković said Rijeka would get a modern building with the best equipment. "It will also be an incentive for the third construction stage of the Rijeka Hospital."
The director of the Rijeka University Hospital (KBC), Alen Ružić, thanked the government for the support, saying the new building would house the pediatrics, maternity and gynecology clinics as well as all of the university hospital's joint services, which would "considerably improve" its work.
Speaking of the third construction stage, he said that by the end of the year consultants selected by the European Investment Bank would make a feasibility study and a design concept in order to apply for European funding.
"In the third stage, in the building near this one under construction, the whole KBC would be finally combined," Ružić said.
Health Minister Vili Beroš said this was the biggest infrastructure project in the area. "The government recognised its importance and ensured a loan guarantee."
He said the construction of this hospital was based on the national hospital development plan and the Health Ministry strategy to enhance hospital care, so that equal healthcare could be obtained in all four regional centres in Croatia.
Plenković and Beroš were accompanied by Infrastructure Minister Oleg Butković.
