PM Plenkovic, High Representative advocate strengthening of EU role as global actor

The building of a joint European foreign, security and defence policy gives an additional weight to the upgrading of the European Union's role as a global actor, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and the visiting EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini, said in Zagreb on Thursday evening.

Plenkovic and Mogherini discussed foreign affairs and security challenges facing the European Union, its enlargement to include southeast European aspirants as well as migrations.

The Croatian premier informed the EU official that for the stability and security of southeastern Europe, it is important to emphasise the clear prospects of EU potential members in that part of the continent.

He underlined the importance of individual achievements of the EU aspirants in meeting membership requirements and honouring European values.

Croatia will provide all political and concrete technical assistance to those countries in reform implementation on their respective journeys towards the EU, Plenkovic was quoted as saying.
