NextGenerationEU contributes to economic growth and Europe should be proud of that instrument, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said today in Athens at a panel held as part of the Road to Recovery conference, organised by the European People's Party's group in the European Parliament and the European Committee of the Regions.

NextGenerationEU puts Croatia and Greece at the top when it comes to allocations and GDP, 18% for Greece and 15% for Croatia, PM Plenković pointed out.

NextGenerationEU played a key role in the recovery from the economic consequences of the tough restrictions during the biggest pandemic in the last 100 years and it helped Croatia increase investments, Plenković said.

Croatia has €15 billion at its disposal under the 2021-27 EU budget and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) amounts to €10.5 billion.

The realisation of the NRRP was analysed by the Belgian National Bank and its evaluation is that these funds are doubling public investment in Croatia, Plenković said.

NextGenerationEU is an added value to our economies and development

The implementation of NextGenerationEU is proceeding smoothly and contributing to economic growth, he said, adding that the funds target post-earthquake reconstruction in Zagreb and Banovina and unprecedented investments in educational, health, justice administration and energy infrastructure.

"In that way the NextGenerationEU has really helped us to boost investments", he stressed out.

This instrument, which we created together and which Europe should be proud of, really made a difference, Plenković said.

"We delivered fast, we delivered big and I think that this instrument, as one of the elements of the crisis management, will prove to be very successful and the added value to our economies and our development", PM concluded.
