PM Plenkovic sends letter of condolence to Indonesian president

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Sunday sent a letter of condolence to Indonesian President Joko Widodo following the tragic loss of a large number of human lives and extensive property damage caused by a tsunami that hit the coasts of the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra.

"It was with great sadness that I learned of the tragic loss of a large number of human lives and extensive property damage caused by a tsunami that has hit your country," Plenkovic said in the letter, extending his condolences to Indonesia's president, people and the victims' families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

At least 222 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the tsunami that hit Java and Sumatra on Saturday. Undersea landslides are believed to have been caused by an eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait.

Hundreds of houses and other buildings have been severely damaged in the tsunami.
