This was one of the most challenging years for Croatia since the end of the Homeland War, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in parliament on Wednesday while submitting the Annual Report on the Work of the Government on the eve of the government's first anniversary.

"This year was on of the most challenging years for Croatia since the end of the Homeland War, on the economic, political and social fronts," Plenkovic said.

Natural disasters, wildfires and floods, the Agrokor crisis, arbitration proceedings involving INA, reconfiguration of the parliamentary majority, work on reducing ideological divisions, a demanding international environment, the prime minister said, naming the things the government was faced with in the first year in office. "In this context and in a year like this one, the government met a signification portion of its programme and we will keep going and continue the work," Plenkovic said.

"Our primary objective is to secure a quality life, better living standards and secure better possibilities for personal development," the PM said.

He went on to present the government's activities in five theme areas -- putting man in the centre of politics, strengthening Croatia's economy, making positive social changes, national security, and foreign and European policies.

In his 60-minute address in parliament, Plenkovic was also expected to state the main guidelines of the government policy and the guidelines for its future work.

Under the law, the Prime Minister is expected to submit a report on the government's work to parliament once a year, at the start of the autumn session.
