PM Plenkovic with members of the Permanent Council of the Croatian Conference of Bishops

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Monday received members of the Permanent Council of the Croatian Conference of Bishops (HBK).

The government and HBK expressed their satisfaction with the good cooperation and open dialogue between the State and the Catholic Church.

PM Plenkovic said that all outstanding issues needed to be resolved through dialogue and that the joint government and HBK commissions should step up their work so that issues of common interest could be resolved.

There was talk of how to resolve the question of facing the past, and the HBK delegation supported the prime minister's announcement that that issue would be addressed systematically, pluralistically and institutionally.

One of the topics was the education reform, and Plenkovic said that the reform was continuing. President of the HBK Permanent Council Msgr. Zelimir Puljic underscored that he welcomed endeavours for that reform to be free of any ideological premises.

The importance of completing the process of the canonisation of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac was underscored during the talks.

The HBK delegation consisted of the HBK president, Zadar Archbishop Zelimr Puljic; HBK vice-president, Zagreb Archbishop Cardinal Josip Bozanic; Djakovo-Osijek Archbishop Djuro Hranic; Bishop of Porec and Pula Drazen Kutlesa; and HBK secretary-general Enco Rodinis.
