PM Sanader receives OSCE commissioner for minorities

ZAGREB, Nov 18 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Tuesday received the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) high commissioner for national minorities, Knut Vollebaek, who was strongly impressed by Croatia's progress.

This was Vollebaek's first visit to Zagreb since 1993. He said that the OSCE remained at the Croatian government's disposal regarding advice on a bigger participation of national minorities in state administration, the strengthening of the integration of the education system, and other subjects related to the strengthening of the position of national minorities in society.

Sanader thanked OSCE for the role it had in the promotion of common values, notably regarding the integration of national minorities in Croatia's public and political life. He said that national minorities, with their proactive activity, were an important factor in the development of democratic relations in society.

The two officials also discussed the Croatian minority's position in neighbouring countries, the big progress achieved in refugee returns, and the current political situation in the neighbouring region.
