PM says Dubrovnik leader in many areas throughout centuries
Attending a ceremony at the Dubrovnik City Council on the occasion of the city's day and the day of its patron saint, St Blaise, February 3, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that prudent governance, trade, diplomacy and love of freedom had made Dubrovnik a leader in many areas throughout the centuries.
"We must take care of our heritage and in the last three years my government has financed more than 200 cultural programmes with HRK 36 million," he said, underlining the importance of the government session held in Dubrovnik on Friday and of the projects to build the Peljesac Bridge and upgrade Dubrovnik Airport, which, he said, were being implemented owing to Croatia's EU membership.
Mayor Mato Frankovic said that over the past year the city administration had launched a major investment cycle, with the biggest budget in the city's history, and recalled that HRK 80 million of EU grants had been secured over the past year.
"We are using the money to improve waste management, renovate our heritage, modernise the city transportation system, and build kindergartens and schools and improve their energy efficiency," said Frankovic.
Later in the day, PM Plenkovic is expected to attend a ceremony marking the start of the Feast of St Blaise.
